In October 2020 as part of an ambitious expansion strategy for the company, Dixon International Logistics moved to it’s new state of the art depot in Coventry.
This new depot, strategically located beside Coventry Airport, is set on a 3 acre site with office space for up to 50 staff. Dixon Coventry also has created an additional 50 trailer spaces on site which will allow for the expansion of UK operations.
Additional features include:
-Plug in points are available for refrigerated trailers.
-CCTV and Electric gates for security and access control.
-The depot is equipped with a canteen and showers for international drivers.
-State of the art workshop for vehicle maintenance
-Extensive Warehouse space
Company MD Michael Dixon noted “The move to Rowley Drive, Coventry has really been a game changer for our presence in the UK. The central location of being in Coventry has really worked well for access to main routes to various ports and is opening doors for more business opportunities.”
It has now been just over 6 months since the move from Rugby to Coventry for Dixons.
Depot Manager for Dixon International Logistics, Phil Stallard has been very happy with how the move has gone to date.
“The staff and I in the UK depot were very excited at the prospect of a move to larger premises from what Rugby had offered for the previous 6 years. I personally have been with Dixons for just over 5 years now and to see the growth from when I first started back in the Rugby depot has been fantastic.
Incredibly we have continued to expand our fleet size and driver pool, as well as grow our office staff throughout the Covid Pandemic. I would personally like to thank everyone for the continued support on sticking to the Covid rules. A special thanks also to Lesley, our office cleaner, for her hard work during the move and throughout Covid for keeping everything sanitized and ensuring we have a safe working environment.”
New Staff at Dixon Coventry include Marcelle Baker (Transport Department), Darius Drozdziel (Workshop), and Tom Churchill (Transport PM shift) who transferred from Dublin back to the UK in 2020. In addition to the new office staff, Dixons have also been able to grow the pool of UK drivers since moving to Coventry. This has been because of the move, as discussed by Lead Transport Planner in Dixon Coventry, Adam Boyes.
“One of the main advantages the move has already given us has been a huge increase in driver applications within the Coventry area, I think this is due to the site location, situated on 1 of the busiest Industrial sites in Coventry and Warwickshire.”
The move to Coventry has seen vast upgrades to driver facilities on site for both domestic and international drivers, as described by Michael Dixon.
“The top end facilities on site have really been popular amongst our drivers. We installed high speed WiFi in all common and parking areas, have a fully stocked canteen and new shower facilities. As well as this, there are full laundry facilities on site which is very important for our european drivers out on the road for days at a time. We also recently installed a state-of-the-art truck wash which is crucial to ensuring the fleet is presentable at all times.”
With this additional space and improved facilities, plans are already afloat to expand operations in the UK to include more domestic UK transport, as well as UK-EU exports and imports.
