Dixon International Transport have this month broken ground on a brand new, fully automated warehouse next to the company headquarters in Dublin.
The new warehouse, which will be the 4th such facility owned and operated by Dixon, will encompass 40,000 chilled and ambient pallet spaces.
This represents a significant investment from Dixon International of over €35 million and will increase the company’s storage offering to 60,000 pallet spaces across 4 warehouses.
Incorporating the latest technology from the Moffett Automated Storage AS/R Taxi System, the warehouse will prioritise health & safety whilst encouraging higher productivity rates, more economic consumption of materials, reduced factory lead time and significantly enhanced product quality.
In addition to being fully automated, the warehouse will also be one of the environmentally friendly, running completely from solar power. The state-of-the-art automated system also means that the facility will operate as a dark warehouse, with little to no internal lighting required, thus further reducing energy consumption.
Michael Dixon, Managing Director of Dixon International Transport, commented “We are very excited and enthused as we break ground on our latest and most significant warehouse development. This project has been many months in planning and to see it finally get under way is very exciting. We are particularly pleased to be implementing a fully automated solution to the warehouse which will operate in both the chilled and ambient chambers.”
Michael added, “we feel the mixture of chilled and ambient in the new warehouse will open many avenues for the business as this will be attractive to a multitude of industries such as food, pharma and life sciences.”
Currently Dixon International have 3 warehouses at their headquarters in Dublin, next to the airport. These warehouses store a mixture of temperature controlled and ambient pharmaceutical product, as well as high grade food stuffs. Dixon is proud to be HPRA approved for their existing facilities, as well BRCGS AA Certified for the storage and distribution of food products.
Dixon International Transport acquired Armagh and Monaghan based haulage company, Carna Transport in August 2022, bringing the company fleet to over 300 trucks and 600 temperature-controlled trailers.
Michael feels the new warehouse will be attractive to both existing and potential customers of Dixon and Carna. “The acquisition of Carna in August 2022 has been a very positive move for us as a company. Both businesses continue to operate independently whilst enjoying the synergies and efficiencies of each other. Carna Transport came with a solid customer base which has complimented the existing customer base at Dixon International. I feel the new automated warehouse building will be attractive to both sets of customers and will allow us to diversify into new storage markets.”
The warehouse is due for competition in quarter 1 of 2024. For further information on the development, as well as the existing business of Dixon and Carna, please contact Monika at monikals@dixontransport.com
